Mid Week Again So What Does That Mean

,
Wednesday the middle of the week, the middle of the muddle or is it the center of some project that will or at least may be of great significance in your life. No matter what you feel about it right now, It can mean whatever you focus on it to mean. Why not make it the center of your attention for the next ten minutes. Some project or plan or even some idea youve had that maybe could be worthy of some power thinking. Give it what it deserves. Your Time. That means a degree of effort but mostly time. Seriously important time.but time we all can always make available, somehow. If its worth making the effort, its worthy of you.

That dam soapbox is going to get me in a lot of trouble one of these days, Now its work time:

Backyard Aquaponics
By Ashley Walsh

Growing vegetables by aquaponics not only produces tasty home grown veggies but also your own fish to eat. Growing vegetables can be a bit of a challenge if you only have a limited amount of space.

However, an aquaponics system can be set up in a relatively small area, yet still produce an abundance of backyard vegetables.

Darren and Belinda Vance have a large backyard dedicated to fruit and vegetables but also grow vegetables using aquaponics.

Rooftop farming a possibility: Mah Bow Tan
by Esther Ng
Minister for National Development Mah Bow Tan said he would consider rooftop farming - an idea mooted a decade ago by Dr Ngiam Tong Tau, then head of the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) - but he pointed out that there were other competing uses such as recreation and solar panels.

He added that rooftop farming might not be suitable for a commercial building because of the air-conditioning plants on the roof.

Aquaponics System – Rearing and Cultivating Aquatic Plants and Animals

A combination of hydroponics and aquaculture, aquaponics is the culture of rearing aquatic plants and animals for the optimum results. In addition to producing organic food, the system eliminates the environmental issues associated with the traditional farming methods.

Ready! Set! Go!... ok not so fast. Update on the green house Today had another meeting at the school with several people. Facilities Maintenance, Biology Teacher, Principal and consultant. It was in the high 20s today so we walked out to the poor snow covered greenhouse to discuss what we needed to do to get it up and running.   Well the Maintenance guy named everything it needed (a lot) but I think we can get it up and running in a week or so.

aquaponics systems

Why start an Aquaponic System – In a world where almost everything is done on the run and so many people complain about their absence of time, beginning a new hobby seems as a way of social suicide, as you will have less time to see your family and friends . This is why a lot of people today are quite reluctant in giving their precious time away on new pursuits,

Well it is called aquaponics

Posted by stevenlocke on January 29, 2011

Have you at any time imagined which you can alter your storage in a green house with a minimal funding and work? If you enjoy freshly harvested veggies and adore fish, after that is high time that you did a thing for you and your household and the very best issue you can do is present them clean chemicals for delicious and nourishing foods. As soon as you learn how, you will never ever be reliant on the market again! No far more genetically modified greens, no far more preservatives injected to grow them fresh for a lengthier time, simply natural, healthy and balanced super food developed in your storage or within your house.

Here is the hydroponic and biofiltration side of our aquaponics system. This basic build is in the garage for testing and design ease. We are using a High Pressure Sodium lamp for our light source and a 75gph aquarium pump to move water. Once the micro-eco-system is moved outside, the pump will be replaced with 2 smaller, solar powered pumps (on solar-charged batteries, of course). Eliminating the need for electricity.

A Greenhouse or a Growhouse???
The best way to grow food indoors is with an Aquaponics system. Aquaponics is a cross between Hydroponics (growing vegetables in water) and Aquaculture (farming fish). You get the best of both worlds and you don’t have to deal with dirt. An Aquaponics system needs to be placed in a protected environment where you, the gardener, can control the atmosphere both in the the environment and in the water tanks where you are raising your food fish.

Plants You Can Grow In An Aquaponics System   by Ethan Mills
Plants You Can Grow In An Aquaponics System

The aquaponic plants are where its at! Thats the great benefit of aquaponics, enjoying the vegetables and fruits when they are ready to be eaten. While the crops are growing, the nitrogen cycle occurs because of the bacteria in the root systems. This is where the water is filtered and cleaned before it returns back to the fish. Without plants the system cannot function properly. Research has shown that plants were proven to be an effective means of water purification for aquaculture. Lettuce, chives and other leafy crops were first considered for aquaponics but, more recently,

Mid Week Blank

,
This is great, my mind has jacked up on me. So we wing it Again. Or just say nothing and go straight to work. Which of course is the easy option and probably the best one from your point of view. I probably will have the opportunity down the page to sound off about something, so I might as well go that way.....

Farming inside the box: Urban agriculture of aquaponics
by Emily Gadekand Michelle M. Schaefer
Snow falls outside a nondescript one-story warehouse on Chicago’s South Side. But inside, its the growing season. Hundreds of fish swarm and fight for food in tanks surrounded by beds of basil, rainbow chard, and mint.

Micro-Aquaponic Sculpture
When I was in high school I read about research at the University of Hawaii in small scale self contained ecosystems. The idea fascinated me so I started doing research on how I could build one. In Des Moines, Iowa, where I lived, there is a small rain forest contained in a geodesic dome called the Des Moines Botanical Center. A scientist at the center helped me with a design for a miniature version of the center with the addition of a cave environment below the terrestrial and lake environments. My design, which I built with help from my dad, was a Plexiglas dome mounted atop a box with a cylinder in the middle that served as a lake environment.

Last March, the president of Harvard University, Drew Gilpin Faust, visited Japan to find out for herself what has become of Japans once-vibrant contribution to American academia. The numbers of Japanese students enrolling in Harvard have declined steadily over the past decade, and in September 2009 that renowned universitys first-year intake included just one student from Japan.
